Description:
Migration of Bhutanese workers to Australia has increased sharply in recent years, raising concerns regarding potential brain drain and implications for Bhutan-s development. Administrative exit data indicate a sharp rise in departures since 2020, while international sources show a rapid increase in the stock of Bhutanese migrants in Australia, many of whom are students. The World Bank Group is undertaking a study of the Bhutanese diaspora in Australia to better understand migrants- socio-demographic profiles, education and labor market outcomes, household arrangements, remittance behavior, networks, and future intentions. The findings will inform policy dialogue with the Royal Government of Bhutan on managed migration, diaspora engagement, remittances, and circular migration.The objective of this assignment is to engage an experienced Australia-based data collection firm to design and implement a quantitative survey of Bhutanese migrants residing in Australia, in close coordination with the World Bank task team.
