The Australian grains industry operates within a multi-faceted supply chain encompassing a diverse range of stakeholders, including growers, input suppliers, logistics and storage providers, processors, marketers, exporters, and end-users. Understanding how information is communicated across these points is critical to supporting efficient operations and meeting evolving market and regulatory requirements such as emissions reduction targets and traceability. This Terms of Reference outlines a proposed review of current information exchange practices across the Australian grains supply chain. The review will explore the nature and extent of communication processes, examine areas where harmonisation may be constrained, and identify potential opportunities for improved interoperability. Consideration will also be given to indicative costs and efficiencies that could be associated with adjustments to information management practices. The review will contribute to GRDC's Sustainability Initiative, with particular attention to sustainability credentialing, supply chain emissions mapping, traceability and the potential role of harmonised information exchange in supporting these outcomes. The review will also consider the extent to which costs associated with harmonisation and sustainability compliance may be mitigated or redistributed across the supply chain.
